The course offers the acquisition of disciplinary and theoretical knowledge, based on the human sciences (sociology, education sciences, psychology, history, philosophy).

As part of the preparation for the CPE competitive examination, this course contributes to the acquisition of an institutional culture, as well as that of emerging professions in the social field. It examines the practices, values and references of those involved in specific contexts and educational partnerships.

This course includes training in - and through - research.

Objectives

This course is aimed at candidates for the external competitive examination for Principal Education Advisors (CPE).

It prepares students for the written exams of the competitive entrance examination, with courses in the human and social sciences taught by teacher-researchers (history, philosophy and sociology of education, adolescent psychology, public policy, pedagogy) and training in essay and case study methodology.

Teaching relating to the institutional context (knowledge of the profession, organization and operation of the education system, ethical and legal issues) is provided mainly by professionals from the French Ministry of Education. The course also prepares students for the oral exams, with intensive training for the interview and role-play tests.

Last but not least, the course introduces students to research.

Skills developed

The training is backed by the professional skills repository for teaching and education professions, more specifically the specific skills of the CPE (decree of July 1, 2013 and circular of August 10, 2015).

Students develop skills in the analysis of professional situations in school life, student support, project engineering, interviewing and team management.

The training enables students to acquire a mastery of disciplinary knowledge related to education and to develop a reflective posture linked to research.

Students must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent at the time of registration for M1.

A jury decides on admissions according to the number of places available.

The competitive entrance exam for CPEs (conseillers principaux d'éducation) takes place at the end of the M2 year (eligibility tests - written exams - and admission tests - oral exams).

Training content

The program includes courses in the humanities and social sciences, training for the written and oral exams of the competitive examination (cf. new 2022 exams), support for the professionalization process, in particular through work placements and their exploitation, an introduction to research and support for the production of the dissertation, applied to the field of education. The course strives to meet the triple objective of professionalization, high-level training through the articulation of academic knowledge, research and the construction of professionalism, and preparation for the CPE competitive examination.

Organization

Classes are held over three days a week. The course includes an observation and practical internship in M1, and work-study or practical internships in M2.
