AT PRESENT, TWO TYPES OF MOBILITY ABROAD CAN BE ENVISAGED FOR CERTAIN COURSES OF STUDY AT FDE

  • A work placement lasting 3 weeks (Master EIFFALE) to 2 months (Licence Pluri et MEEF) in a primary or secondary school in one of the Fde's foreign partner countries.

  • Long-term mobility such as a full "semester of study", also known as an academic stay, at one of Fde's partner universities abroad.

For a quick overview of our system, download our brochure below:

STUDY SEMESTERS OR "ACADEMIC STAYS" (UNIVERSITY)

The academic stay consists of studying for a semester at a partner university, in the language of the host country or in an English-speaking course (mainly L2 students).

With the help of the International Relations department and in agreement with the host university, students taking part in this mobility program have drawn up a study contract setting out the content of the courses they will be taking.

They follow the courses mentioned in this contract, and take the exams according to the procedures of the host university. This evaluation is used to validate the 30 ECTS required to obtain the semester of study.

WORK PLACEMENTS (SCHOOL)

Students don't take any courses in a training facility, but are placed in an elementary school or kindergarten for primary school, and in a middle or high school for secondary school.

For multidisciplinary bachelor's degrees, there are 2 possible periods: January-February or March-April.

These internships take place during the 2nd semester of the 2nd year (L2). Schools and educational establishments can be offered to students (see our partners below), but it's up to each student to find an establishment willing to take them on.

The courses have multiple objectives:

  • Enable a comparative approach with another education system

  • Observe different professional practices

  • Improve your foreign language skills (non-French-speaking countries)

  • Introduction to the didactics of French as a foreign language by destination

  • Confronting interculturality in a professional context

  • And develop your ability to work independently

  • Financial assistance :

To help finance their internship or study stay abroad, students can apply for one or more grants (Erasmus, AMI, Frim).

The amount and origin of these grants vary according to the destination, the duration of the internship and the agreements signed with our international partners. They provide invaluable material support, in addition to that provided by the Faculty of Education.

These mobility grants can be monthly or flat-rate. They are calculated according to the cost of the stay abroad. Amounts range from €250 to over €1,000, depending on the case and eligibility criteria.

The Faculty of Education also provides financial support, depending on the destination chosen and the student's administrative status (CROUS scholarship holder/non-scholarship holder).

Internships abroad as told by students :

- "The human side of this trip was more than present, so I'd like to thank all the people who took care of us during the whole month and so to all our new friends."

Manon (Senegal)

- "This experience enabled me to improve my spoken English, thanks to linguistic immersion in an exciting cultural and professional environment. The preparation for the internship was very beneficial in making the most of this mobility experience".

Léo (Finland).

- "I will have very fond memories of this internship as well as many professional techniques that I hope to be able to implement when I become a teacher to complement what I learned in French schools."

Rebecca (USA)

The caesura

In addition to these 2 formulas, each part of a specific course of study, it is also possible to study abroad as part of a "césure" (a voluntary interruption in a course of study) and for a longer period (an academic semester or even a full year of university studies).

This option is a more personal project, subject to major administrative constraints and requiring lengthy preparation.

It may require support and advice from the Fde's International Relations department.
