Training origins

Education and Training Sciences specialization

The Master's degree in Education and Training Sciences is aimed at people interested in educational issues in the broadest sense of the term (school education, informal education, adult training, etc.). Within the specialization, each pathway targets a more restricted audience, in line with the professional and scientific goals of each. The four tracks - EIFALLE, MAC, ReSoDDE-ESEC and TransForM - are organized around a common core in M1, as each, in one or more specific fields, trains trainers, training engineers, facilitators or mediators. The common core is organized around training engineering, project management, interculturality and research methodology. In M2, each course focuses on its own specificities.

Research support

The Education and Training Sciences specialization is supported by LIRDEF, the Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory in Didactics, Education and Training.

Course description

This Master's program trains artistic and cultural mediators, specializing in childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, with a dual background in education and culture.

They will be able to design and implement innovative teaching and learning initiatives and projects in partnership with public or private cultural institutions, associations or local authorities, and to conduct training courses.

This two-year course is designed for students who choose to work in the fields of education, animation and mediation.

General objectives

The pedagogical program is designed to alternate periods of teaching, projects, workshops, independent work and professional contacts.

The teaching team is multi-disciplinary and multi-category. It is made up of teacher-researchers, trainers and external contributors from the professional world (art centers, theaters, local authorities, museums, etc.).

The Master's program is firmly rooted in partnerships with local artistic and cultural structures and institutions, both public and private.

Although this is a professional course, it also offers the possibility of pursuing doctoral studies for research in the field of mediation.

The course content is taught through an active pedagogical approach designed to develop students' creativity and autonomy. Tutored projects in partnership and workshops enable students to learn how to implement projects as part of their future career.

The aim is to develop specific mediation skills, encourage interdisciplinary dialogue and build cross-disciplinary and linguistic skills in a collaborative environment. Acquiring knowledge of artistic and cultural education in schools, extracurricular activities and extracurricular structures enables us to understand the needs of children, teenagers and young adults.

The design of mediation projects is based on knowledge of artistic and cultural mediation: developments, transformations, current events and issues. Multi-disciplinary teaching enables the articulation of artistic and cultural proposals (painting, photography, poetry, theater, dance, etc.) with educational issues.

The course also includes theoretical insights into current issues in the arts, culture and sciences as they relate to education and mediation.

Building on their knowledge of national and international artistic and cultural policies, students develop their professional skills in mediation, designing and communicating artistic and cultural projects in partnership with an institution.

English applied to the profession and a mediation workshop in English prepare students for the international dimension of the profession.

The course is closely linked to the LIRDEF's Education, Politics and Society axis. Research is carried out throughout the master's program.

Organization

The course will take place exclusively at the Montpellier Faculty of Education.

In the first year of the Master's program, a third of the student's hours are shared with other courses. In the second year, all hours are specific to the MAC course.

Audience

Students with a bachelor's degree in education or an education-related discipline (psychology, sociology, philosophy, etc.) or an artistic discipline (visual arts, performing arts, etc.), or mediation or cultural professionals.

Open to initial training.

Licence level

Access by VAE or VAP is possible, depending on the specific elements of each course.
