CRD Garden – Nîmes site

The Nîmes campus of the Faculty of Education, University of Montpellier, participated in the CTOE ville d’équilibre 2025 call for projects and the PEI (I-site excellence program) call for projects.
In this context, he was able to obtain funding from the Region, the CROUS, and the CVEC of the University of Montpellier to carry out his project.
The site consists of several buildings and gardens and a resource center (CRD). This CRD is open to all students in Nîmes. We therefore thought it would be interesting to make this space more widely available by opening it up to the outside world and including cultural activities (readings in the garden, concerts, walks, exhibitions, etc.). The gardendevelopment project was designed as an extension of the document resource center (DRC).
The SEL (Sème, Essaime la Littérature) project offers literary cafés hosted throughout the year at the CRD. The idea is to hold these readings in the garden, opening them up to other students in the city of Nîmes and offering an annual program of cultural and artistic events.
To achieve this, it was necessary to reclaim this unused space in three ways:
- Based on what already exists, redesign the garden with a focus on plants that are suited to climate change and with a perspective of sustainable development, in collaboration with students from the MFR Le Grand Mas agricultural college.
- Furnish different spaces conducive to conversation, calm, and listening.
- And finally, create a participatory mural related to the theme of Art and Culture, led by graffiti artist CLAKS and offered to students as participants in the project.
