A memorable visit: Master 2 ReSoDDe-ESEC students
at the Camp des Milles Memorial Site
On November 28, students in the Faculty of Education's Master 2 ReSoDDe-ESEC course had the opportunity to visit the Camp des Milles Memorial Site. This unique site, at the crossroads of memory, pedagogy and innovation, provided an opportunity for reflection on memory and "curricular analysis" (the name of their UE).
The Site-Mémorial was conceived not only as a museum of history and a place of remembrance, but also as a space for heritage and artistic culture, and as a "museum of ideas", an innovative laboratory in terms of both content and teaching methods.
Thus, for the first time in the world, the Camp des Milles Memorial Site provides multi-disciplinary benchmarks and keys to understanding a place of remembrance, which can help us to be vigilant and react in time to identity-based tensions and extremism.

Its educational and cultural action is designed to reinforce citizens' vigilance and responsibility in the face of racism, anti-Semitism and all forms of fanaticism.
Accompanied by Xavier Roth, lecturer in philosophy of education at Aix-Marseille University and co-designer of the memorial's educational trail, the students explored a key issue:
How could an ordinary place and ordinary people become accomplices in a totalitarian, genocidal system?
Through a comparative analysis of the four great genocides of the 20th century (Armenian, Jewish, Gypsy and Tutsi), students were able to identify the common mechanisms that led to these tragedies. These reflections, rooted in the human and social sciences, helped to question our democratic values and strengthen our understanding of them. In this way, they were able to experience the curricular design process of a non-formal education system placed at the service of a clear and committed sense of social responsibility.
Beyond remembrance, the Camp des Milles Memorial Site offers an invitation to action and vigilance, in line with the objectives of the ReSoDDe-ESEC program, which focuses on education and training in the service of society.
The management of the Faculty of Education is supporting this teachers' initiative and the travel of all participants with funds from the taxe d'apprentissage.
Thank you to our corporate supporters.
