Understanding Information in the Age of AI and Social Media
How is news produced, verified, and disseminated? What role do journalists play in the face of a proliferation of sources, misinformation, and the rise of artificial intelligence? On Tuesday, November 24, 2026, the University of Montpellier’s School of Education will host “Les Amphis de l’info,” an event organized by Le Monde in partnership with France Télévisions and the ICI radio network.

An event to help you better understand the news
At a time when social media plays a central role in how we access the news, when misinformation spreads rapidly, and when artificial intelligence is transforming journalistic practices, our relationship with information is undergoing a profound transformation.
How can we tell reliable information from misleading information? How do journalists choose the topics they cover? What methods do they use to verify facts? And how is the journalism profession evolving in the face of new digital trends and artificial intelligence?
These questions form the basis of *Les Amphis de l’info*, a series of events held on college campuses across France. The goal is to give the public the opportunity to interact directly with journalists and get a behind-the-scenes look at how news is produced.
Journalists come out to meet the public
Designed primarily for young adults—and particularly college students— Les Amphis de l’info offers a format based on discussion and dialogue.
The goal is to go beyond simply consuming information in order to better understand what lies behind every article, report, publication, or video: editorial decisions, fact-checking methods, the constraints of the profession, as well as the challenges media professionals face on a daily basis.
The event will also provide an opportunity to discuss the changes in journalism related to social media, misinformation, and generative artificial intelligence—all topics that are currently raising questions about the circulation and reliability of information.
