Starting in the 2026 academic year, the Faculty of Education at the University of Montpellier will roll out a significantly revamped curriculum, in line with the latest reforms in teacher education and with developments in the fields of education, teaching, and educational outreach.
This new educational framework is designed to provide better support for students starting at the bachelor’s level, to strengthen the progressive professionalization of degree programs, and to offer a variety of pathways into careers in teaching, education, and training, closely aligned with real-world conditions and regional needs.
A structured and career-oriented Bachelor’s degree in Elementary School Teaching, building on the legacy of the multidisciplinary Bachelor’s degree in Teaching, Education, and Training
The Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary School Teaching (LPE) is structured (as were the previous Bachelor’s in General Education and the MEEF) around three tracks available starting in the first year of the program. The external CRPE track is the main pathway for preparing for the competitive exam to recruit elementary school teachers. It is complemented by two specialized tracks in regional languages—Catalan and Occitan—thus affirming the Faculty’s commitment to multilingualism and the promotion of regional cultures.
These programs combine a strong academic foundation, a gradual introduction to the teaching profession, and opportunities for immersion in school settings and internships abroad, enabling students to gradually develop their career plans.
Science, Education, and Outreach: A Diverse Range of Programs Starting at the Bachelor’s Level
The Sciences, Education, and Outreach (SEM) track also offers three specializations starting in the first year of undergraduate study, providing a variety of career opportunities in the fields of education, outreach, and training.
The Humanities, Education, and Teaching (HEL2) track combines history and geography with languages and literature, and prepares students for careers in education and the dissemination of general knowledge.
The Master's program in Educational Policy Mediation (M2PE) provides training on contemporary issues in educational policy and their implementation within institutions.
The Mediation, Facilitation, and Training (MAF) program is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in social and educational facilitation and training.
Starting in the third year of the bachelor’s program, the curriculum is expanded to include four tracks available in the third year: Engineering Sciences and Techniques for Education and Training (STIEF), Economics and Organizational Management (EcoGest), Mediation, Education and Training (MEF), as well as an innovative track in Hybrid Distance Learning for Elementary School Teaching (FADH-PE), which addresses new pedagogical approaches and students’ need for flexibility while also preparing them for teaching certification exams.
Education and Training Sciences: Toward Instructional Design
The Educational and Training Sciences (SEF) program offers three tracks focused on instructional design, education, and lifelong learning.
The Science, Technology, Humanities, Education, Training, and Teaching (STHEFE) program is designed for students who did not pass the CAPET and PLP competitive exams and prepares them for careers in training design and engineering.
The Mediation, Education, and Training – Educational Supervision (MEF) track prepares students for educational supervision roles who did not pass the CPE competitive examination.
The Interdisciplinary Education and Training Program (PEFE) offers a broad, cross-disciplinary training program for those who did not pass the CRPE exam, enabling them to pursue careers in education and training.
These three programs are designed to help unsuccessful candidates prepare for teaching certification exams.
Master’s programs redesigned to support career paths
The Master’s program in Teaching and Education (M2E) is also structured around three main tracks: elementary education, educational leadership, and secondary education.
For elementary education, the M2E Master’s program specifically prepares students for careers as elementary school teachers, in conjunction with the LPE Bachelor’s degree.
The M2E Master's in Educational Leadership prepares students for roles as senior guidance counselors and other positions supporting students in schools.
Finally, the M2E Master’s program for secondary education offers three specialized tracks: Industrial Sciences and Technology / Industrial Engineering Sciences (STI SII), Organizational Economics and Management (ÉcoGest), and General Education with tracks in Literature-History-Geography or Languages-Literature (English/Spanish – Literature), intended in particular for future teachers in vocational high schools (PLP) or technical education.
An offering that addresses today’s educational challenges
Through this new organizational structure, the School of Education reaffirms its commitment to offering clear, progressive programs of study that are tailored to the profound changes taking place in the fields of education and training.
By strengthening the connections between different pathways, diversifying the routes into the field, and placing greater emphasis on real-world challenges, educational innovation, and outreach, this new training program provides close support to future education professionals as they develop their skills and professional identity.
