The Sciences Take Center Stage at the School of Education

This year, the Fête de la Science invites people of all ages to explore science in a new way, with the theme “Savory Science.”

On this occasion, as it does every year, the University of Montpellier invites you to the School of Education at the Montpellier campus on October 3 and 4, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., for a fun and sensory experience centered on taste, the senses, and food.

"Savory Science": When Science Meets Cooking

This year’s Science Festival highlights the close ties between science, cooking, taste, and food. From the perception of flavors to sensory mechanisms, and from taste illusions to the properties of food, science is explored from a perspective that is both surprising and delightful.

As we do every year, our locations in Montpellier, Nîmes, and Perpignan will host events open to people of all ages. This is a wonderful opportunity to share scientific knowledge and spark curiosity.

In Montpellier, students in the Professional Bachelor’s Degree program in Fragrances, Flavors, and Cosmetics offer an immersive experience into the mysteries of our senses.

This one-of-a-kind laboratory invites visitors to experiment, observe, and question their perception of flavors.

On the agenda:

Explore the labyrinth of the senses and discover how our perceptions can play tricks on us;
Take on the 5-flavor challenge and test your palate;
Let yourself be surprised by this taste illusion and discover that taste isn't always what we think it is;
Visit the edible cabinet of curiosities to explore food from a different perspective;
Discover the irresistible beauty and the fascinating interplay between science, the senses, and aesthetics.

A fun, hands-on experience that appeals to everyone and allows participants to explore science through direct experimentation.
