My favorite zoo" exhibition - Iva TESORIO
March 18 to May 17, 2024
Cultural space (CRD) at the Nîmes site
Opening: Tuesday, March 26, 6 p.m.
"Iva Tesorio grew up in Slovakia, where she received an artistic education from an early age. During her higher education, she was awarded the third national prize for young talent.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, she arrived in France with a Doctor of Pedagogy degree from the Presov Fine Arts School. Married with three children, she settled in the south of France, where she worked in a number of fields, always with a paintbrush in hand.
In her personal work, she uses wax and oil techniques. Inspired by classical genres such as landscape, vanitas and portraiture, she revisits them in her own way. If the influence of Renaissance painting is visible, it's because she draws her inspiration from it. Solitary trees against monochrome backgrounds reveal the existential questions addressed in the vanitas. Still lifes, vanitas and portraits broaden her subject matter, emphasizing the ephemeral nature of things and of existence. A genre that questions the meaning of our lives, and can once again inspire our contemporary vision.
The backgrounds are layered, erased, scratched and worn, like successive traces of life, landscapes polished by time, while the young girls, trees, petals, skulls, oranges... remind us of the fragility of our existence.
She pays homage to the painting of the masters, but not in a formal way; it's more the questions it can raise in us that drive her approach."
