Inequalities between girls and boys: the means to observe and act!

Educating for equality!

with Constance Monnier Project Manager at the Observatoire des inégalités, in charge of the "Youth for Equality" project

The conference will open with a screening of a short documentary, as part of the Faculty of Education's partnership with the International Education Film Festival.

Inequalities between boys and girls persist, with significant social consequences.

They are based on a whole mythology of representations of the masculine and feminine, in different fields, and on the reproduction of deep-rooted stereotypes. But how are these stereotypes constructed, and how do they relate to inequality?

And how can we deconstruct and change representations and free ourselves from stereotypes? How can we inform young people and those involved in education about inequalities, without locking them into a fatalistic, demoralizing or guilt-inducing view of their privileges or disadvantages? This is the challenge taken up by the Observatoire des inégalités.

We'll be talking to Constance Monnier, project manager at the Observatoire des inégalités, in charge of the "Jeunesse pour l'égalité" project. She will explain the persistence of inequalities between men and women, and present a range of tools to help educators raise awareness. Together, we can imagine solutions for a fairer world.
