Originally, in Greek mythology, the Chimera was a monstrous creature with a body combining the features of a lion, a goat, and a snake. Daughter of Typhon, mother of the Sphinx and the Nemean Lion, she was defeated by Bellerophon, riding the famous Pegasus. Over the centuries, the word has retained its link with fantastical beings . But it has also taken on a broader meaning: it now evokes impossible dreams, unrealizable fantasies unrealizable fantasies, utopias, and creations of the imagination, whether luminous or disturbing. In philosophy, chimera also refers to illusions, the unreal images we create for ourselves, unfounded hopes, or the monsters invented to fight them. Chimeras are both fabulous creatures and projections of the mind, a bridge between the real and the imaginary.
Painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, collage, installation, or any other form of expression: all techniques are accepted. This exhibition will be an opportunity to bring together multiple visions, share the power of the imagination, and give life to unprecedented chimeras.
This project aims to celebrate the richness and diversity of artistic expression on a given theme, offering each participant the opportunity to express themselves according to their own sensibilities and give free rein to their imagination. It also provides opportunities for exchange, where all participants can engage in dialogue with each other and with viewers about their creations and the ideas they convey. This project embodies the values of popular education, meaning that every participant—whether a child, adult, student, professional, or amateur—finds a shared space for free expression.
