The School of Education is hosting aEuropean seminaron generative artificial intelligence and teacher training
From May 18 to 20, 2026, the Faculty of Education at the University of Montpellier will host a European networking seminar at its Montpellier campus, organized as part of the European university alliance CHARM-EU.
Focused on the pedagogical and ethical challenges of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) in teacher education, this event will bring together trainersand faculty members from several European partner universities: Trinity College Dublin, Eötvös Loránd University, University of Barcelona, University of Turku, University of Bergen, Utrecht University and University of Würzburg.
Over the course of two and a half days, participants will work together to explore a common question: how to integrate generative artificial intelligence into the training of future teachers, while taking into account the educational, ethical, and professional challenges it raises.
The program will alternate between lectures, hands-on workshops, collaborative projects, and discussion sessions focused on the use of digital learning tools in higher education and teacher training. Participants will have the opportunity to explore three main themes in depth:
- course planning and the creation of teaching materials with the IAG;
- the integration of IAGs into learning activities;
- The uses of IAG in assessment and feedback.
Several presentations will contribute to the group discussion, including a presentation on the initiatives developed at the University of Montpellier regarding IAGs by David Cassagne, a lecture on student uses of generative artificial intelligence by Aurélie Bourdais, and a talk by Kenan Dikilitas on the challenges of teacher training in the face of developments in AI.
This seminar also marks a significant milestone for the Faculty of Education and the University of Montpellier in their involvement with the CHARM-EU alliance. It helps to strengthen European cooperation on innovative teaching practices, promote the exchange of experiences among partner institutions, and develop resources that can be adapted to various educational contexts.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will develop educational scenarios, examples of best practices, and a digital booklet designed to share the seminar’s outcomes within the CHARM-EU network.
