Inauguration of new facilities for the Faculty of Education, Mende site
On Tuesday May 7, 2024, the Faculty of Education of the University of Montpellier inaugurated its brand new facilities and restorations on the Mende site, at a cost of €1,115,230.
The inauguration took place in the presence of Philippe Augé, President of the University of Montpellier, Philippe Castanet, Prefect of Lozère, Sophie Pantel, President of the Conseil départemental de la Lozère, Agnès Perrin-Doucey, Director of the Faculty of Education, and Stéphane Amouroux, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Education, responsible for the Mende site.
The refurbishment of the residence and the accessibility works for people with reduced mobility were carried out and financed by the Lozère Departmental Council, with the support of the State (Financing by the Lozère Department from its own funds: €665,233 and State assistance under the DSID €450,000).
Objectives and expected benefits of the new facilities
The main objectives are to make an internal staircase safe (fire safety) and to improve accessibility for people with reduced mobility at the Mende site, in particular by creating an elevator. The Conseil départemental de la Lozère wanted to take advantage of these improvements to take into account other needs of the Faculty of Education, such as increasing the capacity of certain training rooms, or harmonizing the premises dedicated to the student residence.
But what are the expected benefits?
Firstly, the buildings on all levels will be brought up to safety and PMR accessibility standards, followed by a considerable increase in the capacity of certain rooms. An additional large-capacity room will also be fitted out (to eventually house a learning laboratory whose modularity will also enable us to meet the various needs of our training courses (innovative teaching methods, use of digital technology, hybridization, teaching in music/body and voice, examination room). Last but not least, a truly private space for resident students on a single level (five single rooms, one of which is adapted for disabled access, and eight double rooms).
